Ajeet Singh Sood has led may lives. His first life was full of privilege as the youngest child in a family that rubbed shoulders with maharajas and the British raj. All that came crashing down during Partition, in his second life. But his desire for education led him to a coveted position on the Bhakra Dam project. In this, his third life, he comes to America and accomplishes even more feets of engineering. But his mind is not satisfied. It longs for something it hasn't seen in 60 years.

Yanking Turban More Than a Prank

The three Oregon men had pulled pranks before, like running naked through a store. But they went too far when they yanked off Ranjit Singh’s turban in August. The Sikh Coalition’s Amardeep Singh deemed it a hate crime akin to “burning a cross on an African American's lawn.” Steve Hoddle, the deputy district attorney prosecuting the case, sought hate-crime charges. But the grand jury didn’t see it their way. It dropped the state hate-crime charge. The Coalition is now pressing the federal government to charge the three with federal hate-crimes.

Washington State Sikhs Receive Driver Licenses Valid for Identification

As Sikhs in South Carolina and Ohio continue to have turban issues with driver licenses, Washington state has speedily amended its license-photograph guidelines and recently issued new licenses for three of its Sikh residents that are fully valid for driving and identification purposes, a United Sikhs spokesman said today.
